Rules are used in the APM to flag and group candidates based on application form responses, as well as make assessment decisions through the assessment process based on interaction with assessors or panels. 

To ensure the OOM functionality works, a rule action needs to be added to an Approval Step.

The Order of Merit is used to search for candidates who are successful for the job but were not the preferred candidate. The order of merit statuses that can be set include:

In ProgressAll candidates that are successful post their assessment and the panel are now in the process of deciding who will be the preferred and who will be on the order of merit.
AvailableCandidates that are on the order of merit.
PlacedThis is the preferred candidate who has accepted the position.
DeclineThis should be set if the preferred candidate has declined the offer. This status can also be used for candidates that no longer want to be on the order of merit. 


Order of merit statuses can also be set manually. If a rule is setting the status, it can always be updated manually on the candidate card in the OOM tab.

To add the OOM rule action,:


  1. Locate the Approval Step assessment step you wish to use to determine the Order of Merit .

Note:  It is best practice to add this rule to the final Approval Step in the process to ensure you only get the candidates sitting on the final Order of Merit.

2. Click the Add Rule link.

Note:  If you already have an Approval Step built with basic rules, all you will need to do is add the OOM action.

Once the avaiable status is set you will then need to set the decline and placed status. Typically this would be set on a verbal offer or offer step. Set these as separate rules pointing at an accepted or decline answer option on a decision question.
