What is the Order of Merit?

The Order of Merit status enables the eRecruit system to automatically place suitable (but not selected) candidates for a particular job on an Order of Merit (OOM) list. When similar vacancies arise, users will then be able to search for candidates on the OOM via the Talent Warehouse, who may then be considered for the new vacancy before the vacancy is advertised.

This is done in association with Approval steps. Candidates who are made successful or unsuccessful (depending on the particular Approval step where this is used) can then be automatically labeled as an OOM candidate, which is logged in the Candidate Card.

This functionality can be used successfully for both Private and Public sectors. The order of merit is established for candidates who are a good fit for the role and have gone through the APM successfully, however were not selected because another candidate was a better fit for the role. As eRecruit automatically adds candidates to the OOM, it could very well be used as a way to tag ‘hot’ candidates that are suitable for future roles.
