As the Merge Document functionality involves delicate configuration, there may be occasions that the merging of some data doesn’t work correctly on your first attempt.  Below are a few reasons for this and solutions to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

Some information doesn’t appear in the Merge Document

Reason

When no data merges through to the Merge Document it is because there is no data in the system for that particular question. If you can see a clear space between words, then this is the case.

Solution

To fix this, go to the form you are merging the information from and enter a value.  When you run the Merge Document again, the data will appear. It is best practice to make Global Questions that are used for Merge Documents mandatory to ensure this doesn’t happen.

Merge Code appears instead of the data in the Merge Document

Reason

When a Merge Code appears instead of the text, it can due to a number of reasons:

  • The Merge Code was typed in manually, instead of copying from the Merge Code Library notepad file.
  • The Merge Code is incorrect – usually done if the code is typed in the Merge Code Library as opposed to copying and pasting from the Merge Code Report.
  • An extra space was copied with the Merge Code across from the Merge Code Library.  The space is interpreted as a character, therefore the code is invalid.

Solution

To ensure the above issues are solved, follow the steps thoroughly as shown in the above guide.
