Drill Through

Drill Through reports allow you to access one report from another, usually to see the detail behind what you are seeing in the first report.

In this section

Setting Up Child Report

The general intention of drilling through from one report to another is to see more detail. This may be to see a list of jobs by clicking on a number of jobs, or a list of applicants for a certain job.

As such, you are likely to have categorised the results in one report (by job, division, location, employment type, or status...). This field from the master report will need to be added as a filter in your child report so that you can limit your results to the category chosen.

It may have additional filters that you can pass through from your top level report, e.g. job open date between.

Enabling Drill Through

Edit your master report. On the Data screen, make sure Drill Through is enabled.

  • For Join Type, select Drill Through
    • You can choose Conditional Drill Through if you only want the drill through to be active when a field has certain values.
  • Specify where filters on the child report should get their values:
    • From filters on the master report
    • From fields on the master report
    • Omitted
  • Choose your hyperlink field
    • If drilling through to a small report, you may want to choose Popup New Window.

Chart Drill Through

If drilling through from a chart, there are additional settings to ensure the drill through performs as required.

It is recommended that you have:

  • Drills Enabled = All. Select One if you have multiple drill through reports but only want one accessible from the chart
  • Drill Through Relationship = Automatic. Ensure that any drill through fields are included in the chart.
